I used to work for Island TEFL, in a variety of capacities, so I know the inner workings of the company well. I'm also one of the few people to have actually met Philip Dunne in person, so I'm well acquainted with his character and how he deals with people. This blog, of course, represents my views only, though I think most people who have worked with Philip Dunne will agree with my take. The reason I'm writing this is because I think it's important people are made aware of what island TEFL really is and don't waste their money on it.
A lot of rubbish is written on the internet, so it's important that you,
the reader, don't take what I say for granted or simply on face value.
As far as I'm concerned everything I've written here is true, but you need to check it out yourself and do some deeper, more thorough research. Also, this is only true at the time of writing.
Things change over time, maybe even Island TEFL, I hope!

ReplyDeleteI had the unfortunate experience of working along side him at a bangkok language institute before he was involved with island tefl. Not a nice man, a terrible bullshitter and shit stirrer. He was eventually fired from that school for repeatedly coming in drunk and trying to hit on women. He was bad news back then, and I'm not surprised at all about what I'm reading here.

ReplyDeleteI have been offered a teaching job with Island Tefl. I have to pay him around £500. I don't mind this but will there be a job when I get there? Also does anyone know any sites where I can look for other CELTA or TEFL work. Thank you.
DeleteDo not pay him, there are tons of placement agencies that will find you a job for free. Or apply by yourself at http://www.ajarn.com/ for Thailand. I also did AnywhereTEFL, it is an online program. There are lots of TEFL's available

ReplyDeleteI'm glad this is being documented. I met Phillip Dunne years ago when he first started Island TEFL. The reason I'm thinking of him is because Donald Trump reminds me so much of him. Dunne is an alcoholic misogynist with a severe personality disorder, and he will steal your money. If you come into contact with him run very far away ... Creepers like this move to SE Asia so they can be weirdos and fly under they radar. Run!!
ReplyDeleteMe too, I'm pleased to see Philip Dunne's being documented. I had some dealings with him a few years back. It's funny, that's exactly what I thought, how like Donald Trump he was, and that was long before he ran for president. I think he kind of modelled himself on Trump. You know, all the "you're fired!" stuff. Problem was he'd even fire people who'd given him money! I agree, keep far away from him. He calls himself Philip Crabb now and is running a school called Camp Thailand together with Americamp. Same kind of stuff.
